How to Use This Page
We have linked each bus route to Google Maps according to the route numbers listed on the official Shima Bus website.
You can compare your current location with the bus route on the map. You can tap the map to open it in the Google Maps app. At the end of this page, you’ll find a list of useful Japanese phrases for taking the bus.
Feel free to refer to them when communicating with drivers or local passengers.
Please note: Timetables are frequently updated, so we do not list them on this site.
For the latest schedule, please check the official Shima Bus website (Japanese only) or refer to the timetable posted at the nearest bus stop.
How to Read the Timetable at the Bus Stop

- In general, the schedule is divided into weekdays and weekends/holidays, so be sure to check the correct section depending on the day.
- Often, only the final destination of the bus is listed at the top of the timetable. Before traveling, make sure you know which destination you need to take.
- Because the entire timetable is in Japanese, we recommend using Google Lens on your smartphone to translate it.
- Be sure to wait on the side of the road heading in the direction of your destination, which is usually the left-hand side when facing the road (since traffic in Japan drives on the left).
1. Airport Line
There are two different routes that run through Naze City.
One route starts and ends at Hiratacho Okumata on the south side of Naze, and the other begins and ends at Kosyuku 1 Park on the west side.
Each bus takes a different path through the city center, so please check the route map carefully to make sure you’re boarding the correct one.

2. Setouchi Umi-no-Eki Line
This bus route connects Kosyuku 1 Park on the western side of downtown Naze with Koniya, the southernmost town on Amami Oshima Island.
If you are staying at a hotel in Naze and want to visit the Mangrove Park (Sumiyo Mangrove Forest), this is the route you should take.
There are approximately 8 round-trip buses per day in each direction.
3. Tatsugo Line
Circular Bus Route Around Tatsugo Town
This route connects Naze and Tatsugo Town, looping through the town in both western and eastern directions. It’s a great way to experience the more local and rural side of Amami Oshima but English signage is very limited.
・West Loop (Naze → Tatsugo → Naze)
HIratacho Okumata → AEON Plaza Oshima →Ashikebu →Tatsugo Town Hall → BigⅡ → Sadaikuma → Amami City Hall (Naze) → Hiratacho Okumata → Koshuku 1 Park
・East Loop (Naze → Tatsugo → Naze)
Hiratacho Okumata → Koshuku 1 Park → Nagahama → Yagijima Hotel → BigⅡ → Tatsugo Town Hall → Ankyaba →Ashikebu → AEON Plaza Oshima → Amami City Hall (Naze) → Hiratacho Okumata
4. Naze ⇄Sani
This bus route connects Hiratacho Okumata, located in the southern area of Naze, with Sani Village, which is situated at the northernmost tip of island. It operates only a few times a day, and the available routes are very limited. Because of this, the service is mainly intended for local residents and is not designed with tourists in mind.
If you are planning to travel to the northern part of the island, especially beyond Amami Airport, it is important to know that public buses are not a convenient option. The limited frequency and indirect routes make it difficult for visitors to rely on this service for exploring the northern coastline or remote villages. For travelers wishing to visit the north side of Amami Oshima, such as Sani or the surrounding areas, renting a car or hiring guide is generally a much more practical and flexible choice.
5. Big Ⅱ ⇄ Kamitoguchi
This is a short-distance bus route that operates within a limited area of Tatsugo Town. It is primarily intended for local residents and runs through only a small section of the town.
6. Shinmura⇄Uken, Yadon
This bus route connects the edge of Sumiyo Town, where the mangrove forest is located, to Uken Village, a remote area on the western side of Amami Oshima. It is the only bus line that goes to Uken Village, making it the sole public transportation option for reaching this part of the island.
To get there, you must first ride the Setouchi (Koniya) Line and transfer partway along the route. The number of buses is very limited, with only three to four departures per day, so careful planning is necessary.
If you are going to Uken village center, there is a direct bus from Shinmura. If you are heading to the Yadon settlement, you will need to transfer at Yuwan bus stop.
Yamato Village Bus
This route is operated by Yamato Village, and is different from the lines run by Shima Bus.
On weekdays, there are five round-trip buses per day, and on weekends and holidays, three round trips.
The bus provides access to popular spot in Yamato Village, such as Cape Miyakozaki and the Amami Wildlife Conservation Center.
Please check the fare table (運賃表)on the website, and note that no change is given, be sure to prepare exact cash when boarding.
