If you’re traveling in Amami Oshima and need to withdraw Japanese yen using a foreign card, there are only two reliable options: Japan Post Bank (JP Bank) ATMs and AEON Bank ATMs. Many shops and restaurants in Amami still operate on a cash-only basis, so we highly recommend preparing enough cash in advance.

Please note: FamilyMart ATMs on Amami Oshima are only compatible with Kagoshima Bank cards. Other cards are not supported.
Currency Exchange
At present, there are no currency exchange services available on Amami Oshima. Local banks do not offer foreign exchange at their counters, and there are no foreign currency exchange machines on the island. For this reason, we strongly recommend exchanging your money into Japanese yen before arriving on Amami Oshima, either at major airports or in large cities on the mainland.

- Do not rely on convenience stores – most local ones don’t support international withdrawals
